Stevie turns ???

On Monday, Stevie has a birthday.  I'm not going to say exactly how old he is, only that he's two years younger than me and I turn 42 this year.  Did I mention this is a special birthday for him???

He decided he wanted to celebrate on Sunday since he has to work on Monday.  In our family, the birthday person gets to choose all their meals and what they want to do so Stevie chose biscuits and gravy for breakfast and curry for dinner.  And what to do for the day?  Believe it or not, he chose going to the zoo!

We haven't visited the Tacoma zoo yet so this was our first trip to the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium.  It's supposed to be a zoo that focuses on Pacific rim animals and sea life so the exhibits were a little limited although there was a tiger, elephant and camel (remind me, what part of the Pacific rim does a camel live?)

They have some baby red wolves at the zoo which have recently been put on display which was a highlight for Emmy and London.  Apparently, there are not many zoos that have red wolves and this zoo is one of the most successful at breeding them.

They also had big, fat walruses at the zoo which, again, is quite rare.

Isn't this a funny picture of the polar bear?  He's all distorted through the glass.

After the zoo, we came home to dinner and dessert (a bourbon chocolate pecan pie - Stevie's favorite) and presents.  I'm pretty sure I was able to surprise Stevie with his main present...a trip to San Francisco and Sonoma Valley for he and I the following weekend!  Thanks to Grammie, we could leave the kids and home and head down there for a long weekend.

You like those candles?  Left over from Cannon's 12th birthday!
