Wednesday
Cannon joined Emmy and London and I on our morning bike ride to Dolphin Head. It looks like another beautiful day!
Critter Management
The Honeyhorn Plantation is a beautiful, idyllic spot that still has one of the original plantation houses on Hilton Head. Nowadays, it's a museum and art gallery for the low-country.
They also host educational programs and on Wednesdays during the summer they have "Critter Management". Yes, this is an actual company that comes and helps the residents of Hilton Head "manage" their critters.
My parents have had them out to the house several times over the years for squirrels and water rats and the like. But these guys are like the original "Gator Boys" and also do a lot of "relocating" of pesty alligators from the lagoons around the island. In fact, currently Critter Management is being penalized because of the failed relocation of a love-lorn alligator named Big Al...but that's a story for another time.
Emmy, London and my mom went into the Critter Management show while Cannon and I walked the grounds of the former plantation. Apparently, Emmy and London were not the least bit scared of the snakes and alligators, and in fact Emmy was quite taken by a little corn snake.
After the show, Grammie took us to Munchies for a cool treat. Yum!

Night Swim
One of the things the kids really wanted to do while in Hilton Head was swim at night. They got their wish with a bonus...Grandpa decided to swim too! I think he hasn't been in the pool since we came last time!
Monday
On Monday, I dragged Cannon out of bed early to help me empty Grammie and Grandpa's storage unit. This is a job that's needed doing for a long time and we were glad to provide the muscle to move the stuff.
The afternoon was cloudy and threatening rain, so we took the chance to go to a thrift store and buy a bike for Emmy. Last time we were in Hilton Head, we bought a used bike for London (that they kept in the famed storage unit), and now that Emmy can ride, she needed one too. Thanks to Goodwill, we got the hook up with a bike and a helmet for less than $10. We tried to head out for a bike ride to the beach and then a walk. But the minute we got to the beach, it started raining!
That bike turned out to be a good investment - the three of us biked to Dolphin Head beach every morning of our visit!

Welcome to Hilton Head
With the summer break only just begun, the kids and I took off for Hilton Head to visit my parents and have some fun in the sun. Cannon headed out to South Carolina a week before the rest of us, and we followed on a red-eye flight on Saturday.
Not dismayed by a lack of sleep, the kids were in the pool within the first hour of getting to Grammie and Grandpa's! It was an indication of how the whole week would go.
That evening, Cannon and I walked down to the little beach by my parent's house to see the ocean. Unfortunately, it was high tide which left about 6 inches of beach!
For all you country music fans, see if you can fill in the blank... "I've got my toes in the water,_____"

Last day of school
Well, it's finally here for the kids of Voyager Elementary...the last day of school!!! How can it be that a whole year has gone by and I'm now the mother of a sophomore, fifth and third grader??? Ahhh! I want my babies back!
Cannon actually finished up his school year last Friday as I took him out of school 4 days early to go to Grammie and Grandpa's. He's been living the good life of sunshine, warm temps, swimming and single-child status for several days now. That will soon be disrupted when we fly out to South Carolina on Saturday to join them. We can't wait!

(Yes, it really is June despite the pants and jackets!)
PS - I was waiting to post this post for the final "getting-off-the-bus-running-to-mom" photo but I screwed up. Yep, at 12:30 I went trotting down the hill with dog and camera in tow to meet them getting off the bus only to round the corner and see them walking up the hill alone. What??? Turns out school let out at 12:15 today, not 12:30!!! Ooops!
