I kind of always pictured our "re-entry summer" into the US as a grand reunion with all the family but in reality, it hasn't quite happened like that. First of all, the US is BIG and our family is particularly spread out- Washington, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Missouri, Minnesota. None are within a reasonable day's drive of another. And with gas prices and airfares the way they are, my dream of seeing everyone as soon as we got back Stateside fizzled.
Fortunately for us, Nicole and her band decided to come to us in Hilton Head for a grand reunion of the Clayton side of the family (unfortunately minus Stevie). The Cunningham clan rolled into town late on July 1st with the intent to stay for a week, but unfortunately for all, one of Brian's good friends passed away during that time so he, Nicole and Hailey had to leave on July 4th. But they did leave Hannah and Sydney behind to hang out with us for almost another week.
While they were all in town, we were busy. I took the girls shopping (a fun treat for me who hasn't done much shopping in 3 years), Nicole did a special paddle board yoga class, Nicole and Brian ran in a race, we all went to the beach, the kids went swimming, we had a group birthday party for Grandpa, Nicole and Hailey (all June birthdays) and Cannon (August), we set off fireworks (thanks Uncle Brian) and we went out for dinner at the "Yummy House". Phew! All the cousins had fun together, but I have to say that Emmy took a particular liking to her girl cousins.
